MCI slid due to slower restocking for Chinese New Year sales
Published Jan.25 2010, 12:00AM (GMT+8)

Between January 11th and 25th, MCI index slid 110.3 points from 6916.9 points to 6806.6 points. The slide brought MCI Index closer to the 20-day average. In terms of shipment volume, as brand vendors have been restocking in preparation for the Chinese New Year sales at the end of 2009, global panel shipments hit a record high of 50.15 million units in Dec’09. At the same time, panel prices also increased. These factors have extended the upward momentum of the MCI. However, as the restocking for the Chinese New Year sales slowed down, and market demand for panels gradually reduced, panel prices are bound to hit the turning point. Therefore, the higher market uncertainty led to the slide in MCI performance.
