MCI index surged by 54% YoY boosted by economic recovery
Published Dec.28 2009, 12:00AM (GMT+8)

Between December 14th and December 28th, MCI index rose 281.2 points from 6194.1 to 6475.3, and a surge of 54% YoY from 4200 points. This surge of nearly 300 points indicates a sharp recovery in market sentiment and investor confidence. Several factors supported such market condition: first, Chinese New Year sales are expected to reach market expectations, prompting brand vendors to continue their stocking-up; second, competition persists between two system integrators, AOC and Innolux, as both strive to reach their annual shipment targets, which affected the panel supply of other SIs; third, panel makers have been preparing for a price increase. As a whole, the combination of a supply shortage and a potential price increase led to a stronger down cycle compared to the same period in the previous years, and bolstered the continued rise in the MCI index.
