Between November 17, 2008 to November 28, 2008, the MCI index increased from 3822.4 to 3964.3, up by 141.9 points. After hitting a new historical low of 3606.0 on Nov. 20, the MCI index finally started to increase in the subsequent days. Although only 35.7 pints away from the 4000 point level, as of Nov 28, the index remains very unstable. Continued declines may easily be seen again, especially considering the current sluggish TFT LCD market conditions. Whether in the upstream, midstream or downstream segments, demand is slow and prices continue to drop. According to WitsView’s 2HNov panel price survey, prices fell between -4% and -11% for the 3 main applications. Thus, WitsView believes it is still possible to see the MCI index drop to new historical lows for the time being.
