Between December 15, 2008 to December 26, 2008, the MCI index decreased from 4247.8 to 4155.3, down by 92.5 points. Despite rising to more than 4200 during the first half of December, as mentioned in WitsView’s previous report, with no “positive market catalyst driving the TFT-LCD industry”, chances for further MCI increases were projected to be low. Indeed, minimal increases were seen during the second half of December, where the index largely fluctuated between 4250 and 4100.
Separately, WitsView also stated in its previous report that as of December 12, the MCI index was 228 points above the 20-day average. But by December 26, the index was only 55.5 points above the 20-day average. Thus, if the index falls past the average again, the possibility for a smoother curve to form would drop significantly, as the cross-over could instead signal another series of index declines.
