Based on the latest survey by WitsView, the research division of TrendForce, MCI index slipped by 25.4 to 6963.4 points between June 28 and July 12. The market was concerned about the possible weakening demand for panels in 2H10 because the market was affected by the European debt crisis and the rising inventory among downstream clients under the traditional hot season. Thus, MCI index is in a consolidation status recently. However, executives of China’s top eight color TV manufacturers visited Taiwan for panel procurement. Moreover, EU may lose a trade dispute for violating its obligations under ITA. This decision will boost Taiwan local manufacturers’ competitiveness when 14% tariff on imports of LCD monitors in Europe is waived. Therefore, it will favor panel makers’ mid- and long-term development, and thereby lead to MCI index’s upward trend.
